La r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 tr\u00e8s haute temp\u00e9rature et la stabilit\u00e9 thermique sont des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s typiques de la famille des polyimides. Les polyimides sont \u00e9galement naturellement r\u00e9sistants \u00e0 la combustion.<\/p>\n<p>La famille des polyimides a fortement \u00e9volu\u00e9 depuis ses d\u00e9buts. Alors que la production industrielle existe depuis 1955, le polyimide a d&rsquo;abord exist\u00e9 sous forme de polym\u00e8res thermodurcissables, qui se d\u00e9gradent avant de fondre. Dans les ann\u00e9es 80, un nouveau polyimide thermoplastique a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9, conduisant notamment \u00e0 la production de PEI (poly\u00e9therimide) et de PAI (polyamideimide), avec des temp\u00e9ratures de fonctionnement maximales respectives de 170\u00b0C et 200\u00b0C. Le PEI reste rigide \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es et offre une r\u00e9sistance \u00e9lev\u00e9e au fluage.<\/p>\n<p>En s\u00e9lectionnant les bons grades parmi les mat\u00e9riaux polyimide, on peut atteindre l&rsquo;une des meilleures temp\u00e9ratures de fonctionnement disponibles, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 400\u00b0C. Ces tiges, tubes plaques sont ensuite facilement usin\u00e9s. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur grande stabilit\u00e9 thermique, les PI et PEI sont souvent utilis\u00e9s en usinage de haute pr\u00e9cision, pour des applications n\u00e9cessitant des tol\u00e9rances r\u00e9duites.<\/p>\n<p>Le polyimide et le poly\u00e9therimide sont \u00e9galement transform\u00e9s par moulage par injection, comme la plupart des autres thermoplastiques.
